ENERGY EFFICIENCY DAY #EEDAY2021

As we celebrate Energy Efficiency Day this October 6, we are reminded yet again to reduce our energy use and avoid energy waste (Shinn, 2018). Although an event is marked for its commemoration, we must remember that this is not only a one-time occurrence but should become a lifetime practice. This may somehow come off like a band-aid solution to a much greater issue in energy talks, nonetheless, doing something is better than doing nothing.

Using energy efficiently in some way can contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions and prevent further climate crises (Topping, 2021). Once we cut nationwide energy consumption, there can be an improved quality of life as it lessens energy pollution. Less money can also be spent on paying electricity bills and may help in the financial security of families (Constible, 2018). Energy efficiency can as well maintain the integrity of the power grid which has become one of the pressing issues in the Philippines a few months ago.

Political decisions should be made wisely and immediately. Let us demand the government to do its part in implementing policies regarding the efficient use of energy and demand accountability to all environmental offenders.

As a student and an individual, we are encouraged to do our part in using energy efficiently in our homes. Check out KURYENTIPS: Energy Conservation 101 to know more.
